Round 1: Not enough speed. Started to spin and went into the yard.

Kinja'd!!!

Round 2: Backed up and out of the grass, onto the driveway, and turned around. Went down the road, turned around, and came back to try again. Turned the traction control off, put it in second gear, and got a head start. Made it!

Traction control is not your friend in these situations

Yeah, it ruined everything first time around. I’m glad the CX-5 lets you turn it all the way off.

WOW... I think you need better tires. Maybe it's perspective, but that does not look at all steep. And that light dusting of snow ought not be an issue even if it is steeper than it looks.

I knew these comments were coming lol.

The tires are a week old and are great. My mother-in-law’s minivan with new tires can’t make it up at all. It usually ends up in the ditch at the bottom. Neither can their 4WD Suzuki Grand Vitara with decent tires. The pavement on this driveway is just slicker than snot. Even in rain.

concrete or asphalt? My parents had their garage concrete polished and the slightest bit of moisture turns it into a skating rink.

I'm guessing the driveway is seal coated which is very slick under snow.

By great, do you just mean great all seasons? If they are snows, then I am surprised with it being that difficult.

We don't buy snow tires in Kentucky. It snows twice a year. Total waste of money.

Well depends on the temperature if it’s a waste of money (snow tires work well in the cold) . And if you have any interest in summer tires in the summer. Then even if you don't get snow, it makes sense. But yeah obviously location determines the necessity vs luxury. How is Kentucky? I never hear much about that state other than the fried chicken haha

That is the only conclusion I can come to as to why anyone would live in the Midwest. I'm sure there has to be some other reasons I've glossed over but you are only continuing that idea lol.
